GLP-1: Good for Health and Longevity in Many Ways

GLP-1 drugs aid longevity by improving heart, kidney, and brain health beyond weight loss—but long-term safety and use in healthy people need study.

A new phase 3 study shows that Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) doesn’t just lead to weight loss — it also improves liver health in patients with MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis). The findings included:

  • 63 % of patients had resolution of inflammation without worsened fibrosis (vs 34 % in the placebo group)
  • 37 % had decreased fibrosis (vs 22 % in placebo)
  • On average, patients lost more than 10 % of their weight

This strengthens the view of GLP-1 agonists as much more than “just weight loss” — they impact central risk factors for long-term health. At our clinic we see daily how these innovations change lives — not only by the scale, but also via blood pressure, liver fat and metabolic markers. More and more evidence suggests that GLP-1 may be the closest thing we have today to a true longevity drug.
