The Most Common Longevity Deficiency You’ve Never Measured

Vitamin D

New research summarised by Medical News Today highlights three clear ways that optimal vitamin D levels can support longevity.

Despite the fact that the benefits should be well-known and obvious, vitamin D deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in the world. In the US, almost 42% of all adults are deficient.

The three new studies show:

  1. Lower cancer risk
Higher levels of vitamin D are linked to a reduced incidence of colorectal cancer and other tumours.
  2. Protection for the heart
Studies show that sufficient levels of vitamin D support vascular health, reduce inflammation, and may lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
  3. Slower cellular ageing
A sub-study from the VITAL trial shows that daily intake of vitamin D3 (2,000 IU) helped preserve telomere length over four years — equivalent to up to three years of “cellular youth.”

Measuring and optimising vitamin D is an obvious core strategy for longevity.
